I know its been a minute since my last update, and for this I apologize. In this post I am happy to be writing about my Ocean Fresh Presents; Moving Mirrors CD Release party, which took place Saturday Aug. 25th on Denman Island.
The journey began early Sat. morning at about 10:30, once I packed up all my gear and left Vic. On my way out I picked up Dizzy D, and Def Stef. While driving we had some dope new tunes to listen to from Stef who brought his tablet with a bunch of his own instrumentals. Once we arrived at the ferry in Nanaimo we picked up Tobes and his friend R.I.N.O, who I finally got to meet in person for the first time. Soon we were off towards our next destination; the C-town. This was the first time most of the OFP crew had met each other in person, but once the herb was burning and freestyles were in effect, everyone became friends and could relate a little more. Finally we arrived in the Comox Valley where we switched cars with my Mom who was nice enough to lend me her Subaru so we could fit the massive PA in the back, as well as 5 people and 5 backpacks plus other supplies. After some tetris like decisions we fit everything in with not an inch to spare and we set off towards Denman Island. My friend (Live InFanstasy) was gonna roll with us, but we realized we had no room to pick him up. Will see you next time homie!
Finally we arrived at the seniors hall around 6pm where we unpacked and encountered a little trouble setting up the PA properly. Once the DJ DPMaGee showed up he quickly helped to figure everything out, and started up his set at about 8:00pm. He played an awesome mix of dub, trap and other funky jams until I started the hiphop off at 10:30. By that time we had a decent crowd show up including a few of my family members and some local Islanders who after not too long were up dancing and enjoying the tunes. Next up was Tobes & R.I.N.O who brought over some west coast Van city styles. Lastly was Dizzy D, with some stories from his life and trials hes been through. ISU! To end the night off we had a 20 min freestyle cypher where everyone joined in and let there soul flow. The next day we all chilled for a bit and soaked in the relaxing Denman vibe before we were off again to the City. Big thanks to everyone who helped make this happen including Adil and his sister for help with the PA, Deneen and the Denman Seniors hall for our rental space, Donna at the guest house for her hospitality and space for everyone to stay, and of course all the lovely people who came out, danced and supported to make this a great event. Cheers!
